I've been working with the guys of "PiKapp" for quite some time now. The project began in the Fall of 2005 as an unexpected design referral for a friend-of-a-friend type of arrangement. But, over time, I started to enjoy working with them and this eventually became the most active project in my portfolio.
The website has been through three distinct phases. The current state, as of January 2008, is a result of trying to upgrade the site to a "web 2.0" feel, while maintaining the highest standards of usability, accessibility, and search engine optimization.
The task of creating an identifiable, respectable identity for a college fraternity, based in a community where Greek Life is anything but respected, has been a difficult one. I do have an advantage though: I'm a brother in the fraternity and an alumus of the university. This actually provides me a unique perspective. I'm able to see the goings-on of the organization, as well as the stigma and negativity that often surrounds groups of this type. Therefore, I'm better suited to try and combat that stigma on the web.
All in all, it's one of my favorite projects and I'm very proud of the way it's turned out.
What began as a teenage hobby turned into a passion, a college major, a career, and a downright obsession.
